Immediate Public Release: AIM Calls to all friends of Indigenous Peoples

AIM-WEST, an affiliate of American Indian Movement (AIM), based in San Francisco, an inter-tribal human rights organization, calls upon every warm blooded friend, ally and supporters of American Indian peoples right's to justice and dignity, come join us in a protest to register our concern about RACISM IN SPORTS! More specific, this Thursday, August 23rd at AT&T Stadium in San Francisco, the Giants are playing the insensitive "Atlanta Braves" (tomahawk chop, song gesture, logo designs, etc). (recall: and don't forget when the Atlanta Brave home stadium fans booed SF favorite son' Don Carlos Santana off the stage several months ago for his support for immigration rights views, and not negative federal and state legislation such as what Georgia passed at that time. Needless to say, the US Supreme Court just several days ago struck down portions of this racist bill). Come support our efforts. The baseball game begins at 7:15 pm and we are asking all friends and volunteers to gather at Willie Mays statute (corner street) to help pass out literature in an effort to educate the public's ignorance about "institutional racism". Also, to inform the US government they should be aware this is a human rights violation according to international norms and contrary to the UN General Assembly recently adopted "Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (DRIP)" specifically article #8 which states the following: "1. Indigenous Peoples and individuals have the right not to be subjected to forced assimilation or destruction of their culture. 2. States shall provide effective mechanisms for presentation of, and redress for: (a) Any action which has the aim or effect of depriving them of their integrity as distinct peoples, or of their cultural values or ethnic identities; (b) Any action which has the aim or effect of dispossessing them of their lands, territories or resources; (c) Any form of forced population transfer which has the aim or effect of violating or undermining any of their rights; (d) Any form of forced assimilation or integration; (e) Any form of propaganda designed to promote or incite racial or ethnic discrimination directed against them." Wake up America. American Indians, Native Americans, Indigenous Peoples are not MASCOTS or cultural entertainment to be exploited, and de-humanized.
